Notting Hill Carnival

This bank holiday I took my annual trip to the Notting Hill Carnival in London, for the two day street party. I most definitely had a great time but of course I made time to capture a few pics while I was enjoy the festivities. Bellow are some of my favorites that I shot.

They live

I was informed by my good friend Brad about a film called they live. The film is about aliens who take over the would with the power of the media. Brad sent me this clip and I was astonished to find that it was almost like they had seen my work and taken it to the next step. What I had done in my last shoot was to remove to power of media and advising signs. In the film they had removed and then placed the translations of the messages. The film itself was shoot in 1988 and illustrates the power of advertising  and media. But still we are subjected to the same, if not more sophisticated methods and greater abundance of exposure to this mind altering power.

right to censor

I think that I haven't managed to define and encapsulate what I want my project to portray. It is still yet in development and is still yet becoming. The project is broad as I want to bring together globalistion, consumerism and new world order. Too broad? Perhaps for one series of images or a single image but for a project fascinating.

Bellow are my latest results from this project in which I have removed the power of the adverts and media. The images begin to show the large volume to which the messages of adverting and media invade are surroundings. I think that they are as a part of our environment as nature and concrete. In fact its over kill. Its not just one sign its everywhere. Although it would be impossible to take it all in, I think that are submergence to it has lead to it becoming the norm. The question arises that if has become the norm dose this matter? Although on the face these messages are just signs the power of them is eminence. They influence decision and choice for everyone. I know this to be true as I am also subject to the exposure as everyone else. I have experienced its power first hand. For example I have gone into a supermarket to get only one item and end up purchasing a few that I did not intend to leave the store with. This is only the tip of the the ice berg when it come to the power of advertising and media. Though the same process members of government become elected though the power of campaigns and becoming influential decision makers on how a society should live.

Getting deeper

Rather than post nothing and spoil the momentum of my blog just because I have no new photos this week. I have a news of my latest concept that I am underway with. For a few months now I have been fascinated by globalisation and capitalism. A truly fascinating subject that we are all part of. There is a wealth of information out there about it that can also send you into assorts of interesting tangents. Im thinking that the subject might just be my next logical step for my conceptual photography. I still would like to keep the images rolling weekly on my blog like I intended. But I'm sure that you guys would prefer to see more quality of work rather than just shots for the sake of it. More to the point thats what I would like to see and thats how I'm starting to gauge my photography for now. If I like it then you should too. Not to say that it is something that I'm forcing on you. Its more of a gauge to what is crap and what ant.

I came across the image bellow while I have been researching on the whole globalisation subject and really admired it. It has incapsulated the subject well and is easy enough to comprehend. Unfortunately I could not find out anything about its creator other than its by Rifdi Bin Rosli from Victoria school. I love how this image is as fun as it is serious and it would have been great to have created it myself for this latest project.
